Welcome at Stal Okkema
As a team, we work full time with the horses and ensure that they master the right basics. We have a team of experienced amazons/drivers who are involved in versatile training of the horses on a daily basis. All horses are trained 3 to 4 times a week. They are riden for the dressage, lunged, go on trail rides and are driven in front of the car in single, double and regularly in four-in-hand. We also take a number of horses to dressage competitions, to gain experience there as well.
Once in a while we take them on forrest and beach rides. Our vision is to train every horse as versatile as possible so that you as a customer purchase a horse that masters the good basics and knows the necessary things.

If you are looking for a friesian you have come to the right place, we have years of experience in advising which horse suits you best.
If you want to come by for a test drive, that’s no problem. We are happy to welcome you and give honest advice. One of our riders will show you the horse under the saddle, feel free to make a video to watch it later or show it to your instructor. After that you can get on the horse yourself, and you will get enough time to try the horse.
When we sell a horse, the vet will do a clinical vetcheck, this is at our expense. This way we know that we deliver a healthy horse and more importantly that you are purchasing a healthy horse. Most horses have been x-rayed, if this is not the case, the costs are for the buyer.
We can organize the transport if you like, as we have world wide connections with transportation companies. We can also take care of all the paperwork.
Anne Okkema is a real horse marathon enthusiast. He prefers to do this with his own four-in-hand crossbreds, Russian Orlov trotters x Friesian. These horses have a lot of stamina and are easily manoeuvrable, which is ideal for the obstacles. He won the championship title in Driezum 3 times and was the winner of the summer competition several times.
Antsje Okkema is always a loyal supporter and groom for Anne as well as for both daughters, who can often be found in the dressage rings.
She is also involved in administrative work at Stal Okkema.
And she always makes the best spaghetti on Saturday afternoon,
that all employees love!
Wendy Okkema, the eldest daughter of the family, has been co-owner of Stal Okkema since 2021. She has trained several horses from braking the horses in to the royal class, the Grand Prix.
She also holds several championship titles. She is very busy in the company and is a real all-rounder!
Wendy thinks it’s great work to train the horses and to find the perfect horse for the right customer.
The youngest daughter Rianne Okkema has it more from her father’s side and can often be found abroad. But as soon as she is back home she likes to be on the horses again. She doesn’t see it as a job, it is fun and working with the black pearls and her family cannot be compared to any other jobs. In 2021 and 2023 she was Dutch Champion (for Friesian horses).
